Yesterday we left the coast for the first time to see waterfalls and to sleep. It was dark and we just entered the camping area some locals advised us, or that's what we thought. We woke up in the middle of a rugby field. When we woke up and saw it, we quickly went on a side, while Marion was still sleeping on the van's top floor, funny way of waking up.

The day started at the local cheese factory, where we had as breakfast a plate with all local cheeses and some fruit. The cheese was nice, but unfortunately the service was really poor, I mean, they were grumpy and impolite so to speak, first time this happens in Tasmania for us.

We continued our way to Derby, where we planned to do some mountain biking, however, since we improvised the breakfast stop, we arrived a bit late and they had only the option to rent the full day. Paying 100 dollars for half a day didn't sound cool, specially with such bad weather. As a result, we jumped on the van and we headed west, our new direction, towards Launceston.

Launceston is, in my opinion, pretty ugly. Unlike Hobart which clearly had a touch of multiculturality, small shops, bohemian/fishermans/eco-friendly ambiance, Launceston looked pretty impersonal. So we stopped, we had a walk, we ate something and we headed west again, towards one of the goals in the trip, beholding a platypus. We looked up where we could spot them (pretty difficult) and we searched for a camping close by.

It turned out that next to the camping we chose, there was a spot where you could see them, next to the river, so no need to take the van again. We went there, et voilĂ  !! it was there, my childhood favourite animal, I was amazed by its look, I saw it as a weird combination of other animals. One of the weirdest animals on earth and we saw it!

Diego!
